Fire Ant Management

            Year by year fire ants are getting worse.  To compound the problem, not only must you be concerned about native southern fire ant species, but also red imported fire ants.  Red important fire ants began their march in the gulf states and year by year have adapted to states farther north.  A few years ago, they'd reached upstate South Carolina and the Sandhills of North Carolina.  Now they are at the Virginia border and have even caused the need for quarantine of plant, tree, flower, and sod sales in the Piedmont of North Carolina.  These ants will cause a lot of harm to adults and pose serious risk to children if their nests are disturbed.  Avoid attempting to treat these nests yourself and seek the help of a professional.  Untrained treatments can multiply the problem from 1 or 2 nests to a dozen almost overnight.
